Committee Announces Hearing on Consumer Data Privacy
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “Examining Legislative Proposals to Protect Consumer Data Privacy,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Members of the committee and witnesses will discuss how legislative proposals intend to provide consumers with more security, transparency, choice, and control over personal information both online and offline. Members will also discuss proposals that provide the Federal Trade Commission with more resources and authority to oversee business data practices in the marketplace.

Senate Confirms Commerce Committee Presidential Nominations
Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed a bipartisan nominations package. Eight of the nominees confirmed fall under the jurisdiction of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. These confirmations include nominees for key administration positions appointed by President Donald J. Trump and promotions in the United States Coast Guard.

Wicker Speaks on Upcoming STELAR Deadline
Today, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, spoke on the Senate floor about the need to extend the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELAR) before the end of the year to prevent more than 800,000 Americans from losing access to their local broadcast networks.

Wicker, Thune Introduce 5G Spectrum Act
Today, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and John Thune, R-S.D., chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, introduced the 5G Spectrum Act. This legislation would ensure mid-band spectrum is quickly available in the market by requiring a transparent and competitive public auctioning process. The bill specifically would require that at least 50 percent of the auction revenues be reserved for the American people.

Committee Announces Hearing on Automated Vehicles
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “Highly Automated Vehicles: Federal Perspectives on the Deployment of Safety Technology,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. The hearing will examine the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Board’s perspectives on the safe testing and deployment of highly automated vehicles, otherwise referred to as autonomous vehicles (AVs), self-driving vehicles, or driverless vehicles. Witnesses will discuss recommendations for realizing the potential safety, mobility, and efficiency benefits of AVs.
