Wicker, Thune Commend FCC Vote to Free Up Spectrum
Today, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and John Thune, R-S.D., chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, released the following statements after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted favorably to reform the use of C-Band spectrum and promote U.S. leadership in the next generation of wireless communications and other advanced spectrum-based services.

Wicker Statement on Senate Passage of Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act
Today, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, released the following statement after the Senate passed H.R. 4998, the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019. Wicker introduced the Senate version of this bipartisan, bicameral legislation, which is intended to protect American communications networks from threats presented by foreign suppliers, such as Huawei and ZTE.

Committee Announces Hearing on Supply Chain Security
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “5G Supply Chain Security: Threats and Solutions,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. The hearing will examine the security and integrity of the telecommunications supply chain and efforts to secure networks from exploitation in the transition to 5G. The hearing will also examine the federal government’s role in mitigating risks to telecommunications equipment and services in the U.S. and abroad.

Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Containing the Spread of Infectious Disease
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, will convene a hearing titled, “From SARS to Coronavirus: Examining the Role of Global Aviation in Containing the Spread of Infectious Disease,” at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
