Senate Commerce Committee Approves Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Bill, America COMPETES, and Spectrum Legislation

Moves Important Legislation Through to the Full Senate for Consideration

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation held an executive session and favorably reported out the following legislation:

Legislation Reported Out Favorably:

S. 3490, the Spectrum Relocation Improvement Act of 2010—This bill would require the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to provide more public information regarding the reallocation of spectrum from federal to non-federal use; and set deadlines for federal spectrum users to complete spectrum relocation. S. 3614, Oil Spill Response Act—The bill would establish a Maritime Center of Expertise for Oil Spill Response and a research program for oil spill and hazardous substance release response. Additional information on the bill can be found here.

S. 3605, the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010—This bill would provide authorization of appropriations for the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Science Foundation from fiscal years 2011 – 2013. It would also authorize related activities for the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Department of Commerce.
