Committee Announces Three Hearings to Examine Infrastructure in America

Transportation and Commerce Secretaries to testify March 14

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene three hearings next week on the infrastructure proposal released by the White House including a full committee hearing on March 14 with Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. On March 13, at 10:00 a.m., Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) will kickoff the series of hearings by chairing a hearing of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet titled, “Rebuilding Infrastructure in America: Investing in Next Generation Bradband.” At 2:30 p.m., Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety and Security will convene the panel for a hearing titled “Rebuilding Infrastructure in America: State and Local Transportation Needs.”

“These hearings will help guide our efforts to write bipartisan infrastructure legislation meeting the needs of our communities across the country,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the full committee.“Senators Wicker and Fischer will kick off our consideration of infrastructure with expert testimony on the state of the nation’s surface transportation network as well as ways opportunities to close the digital divide by connecting more Americans to the internet. These subcommittee hearings will inform our bipartisan conversation with Secretary Chao and Secretary Ross on how the administration’s proposal would align federal resources with our most pressing infrastructure needs.”
