WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance will hold a hearing on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. titled, “Protecting Consumers from False and Deceptive Advertising of Weight-Loss Products,” chaired by Consumer Protection Subcommittee chair Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO). The Subcommittee hearing will examine the deceptive advertising and marketing practices of weight-loss products and their effects on American consumers, including actions by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to crack down on such deceptive practices. The hearing will also examine the role private industry plays in complementing the FTC’s enforcement efforts to safeguard consumer wallets and health.
