WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Media, will convene a subcommittee hearing on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to examine how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming communications networks and how the technology can improve reliability, strengthen cybersecurity, drive innovation and economic growth, and enhance communications services across the country.
The Subcommittee will evaluate the current regulatory environment and how the federal government can support continued progress by removing burdensome regulations that discourage investment in and deployment of advanced communications networks.
Upon announcing the hearing, Senator Fischer said: “AI is advancing at a rapid rate. We need networks that can handle today’s cutting-edge technologies and accommodate future innovation. This hearing will examine ways networks are adapting to meet the moment, how AI is making our networks smarter, and some of the challenges providers are seeing firsthand.”
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said: “Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform our communications networks. Ensuring we harness this technology to benefit the American people – while also cutting red tape – is critical. The United States is in an AI race with China, and how we develop, deploy, and lead in this technology will determine who sets the global standard for generations to come.”
