Chairman Cruz Releases Updated Budget Reconciliation Text

June 25, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, published the updated text for the Commerce Committee’s portion of the budget reconciliation bill. The revisions include technical edits while maintaining the original achievement of reducing deficits by more than $40 billion over a decade, ending more than $1.4 billion in wasteful spending, turbocharging the American economy, upgrading transportation infrastructure, strengthening national security, and promoting domestic innovation and manufacturing.

As Sen. Cruz previously said, “The Commerce Committee section invests in bold and transformational policies that will positively impact Americans now and for generations to come. Senate Republicans are fixing the aging air traffic control system, rebuilding the Coast Guard to secure our maritime border against deadly drugs and illegal immigration, ensuring the U.S. – not China – gets to Mars and gets back to the Moon first, and turbocharging economic activity with expanded commercial access to spectrum. These provisions fulfill the mandate given to President Trump and Congressional Republicans by the voters: to unleash America’s full economic potential and keep her safe from enemies.”

The new text makes clear that the optional $500 million state AI program would not affect a participating state’s tech-neutral laws, such as those for consumer protection and intellectual property rights.
