Sen. Fischer Announces Telecommunications and Media Subcommittee Hearing for December 2nd

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Media, will convene a hearing titled: “Signal Under Siege: Defending America’s Communications Networks” on Tuesday, December 2nd at 10:00 a.m. EST. This hearing will assess the evolving threats and security vulnerabilities facing communications networks from fraud, espionage, and sabotage, and examine how the federal government can enhance awareness and foster a culture of network security within the communications industry. 

 

Upon announcing the hearing, Sen. Fischer said:

 

“Foreign adversaries are stepping up their efforts to infiltrate and disrupt America’s communications networks, using advanced technologies to target our critical infrastructure. Congress has a responsibility to respond. As Chair of the Telecommunications and Media Subcommittee, I look forward to holding this hearing to examine how Congress and the private sector can work together to strengthen our telecommunications networks and counter these emerging threats.”

 

Sen. Cruz said:

 

“We must stay vigilant as threats from China and other adversaries to U.S. communications networks grow more sophisticated and dangerous. As our enemies increasingly utilize tools like artificial intelligence to target customers or critical U.S. infrastructure, this hearing will explore how industry can secure networks and protect Americans.”

  • Mr. Daniel Gizinski, President of Satellite and Space Communications Segment, Comtech
  • Mr. Jamil N. Jaffer, Founder and Executive Director, National Security Institute at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University

 

An additional witness may be announced at a later date.
