Nomination Hearing

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a full committee hearing on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 10 a.m. ET to consider the following Presidential nominations:

Nominees:

  • Ms. Robin Hutcheson to be Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (PN1944)
  • Dr. Michael Morgan to be Assistant Secretary for Environmental Observation and Prediction, Department of Commerce (PN1674)
  • Mr. Sean Burton to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (PN1535)

Robin Hutcheson, Nominee for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator, Department of Transportation
Robin Hutcheson currently serves as Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). She previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Safety Policy at the Department where she led the development of the National Roadway Safety Strategy. Previously, Hutcheson was the Director of Public Works for the City of Minneapolis, overseeing a team of 1,100 people across nine divisions including drinking water, surface waters and sewers, solid waste and recycling, fleet management, and all transportation functions. She also served as the Transportation Director for Salt Lake City, UT, working to improve all modes of transportation. Hutcheson spent seven years on the Board of Directors for the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), most recently as its President.

Michael Morgan, Nominee for Assistant Secretary for Environmental Observation and Prediction, Department of Commerce
Dr. Michael Morgan is a professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and associate chair of its undergraduate program. He served on the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) Board on Women and Minorities and on the AMS Scientific and Technological Activities Commission. Dr. Morgan has served on the World Meteorological Organization World Weather Research Program’s Science Steering Committee and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Physics. Dr. Morgan was an AMS/UCAR Congressional Science Fellow in Senator Ben Cardin’s office working as a senior legislative aid on energy and environment issues. Previously, Dr. Morgan was Division Director for the Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences at the National Science Foundation.

Sean Burton, Nominee for Member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority
Sean Burton is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cityview, a real estate firm that has invested institutional capital to build or rehab over 150 multifamily and workforce housing projects throughout the United States. Burton served as President of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners which oversaw implementation of a $16 billion modernization plan to build a new international terminal, develop the largest consolidated rental car facility in the world and connect LAX to public transit via an automated people mover train system. Burton previously served on the Los Angeles City Planning Commission. He also served in the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Commander Third Fleet Units of the United States Navy Reserve.
