Chairman Rockefeller Statement on Travel Promotion Act

June 22, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV issued the following statement after Senate Republicans blocked (on a 53-34 vote) a travel promotion bill from being considered in the Senate.

“At a time when Americans continue to endure the most significant economic downturn since the Great Depression, they look to government to offer common sense solutions.  This bipartisan bill embodies every notion of a sound and effective job creation policy.  I am disappointed to see Republicans block a bill promoting tourism to the U.S., creating thousands of jobs and reducing the deficit.”
