Rockefeller Congratulates Rep. LaHood on His Confirmation as Department of Transportation Secretary

January 22, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D-WV) issued the following statement upon the confirmation of Representative Ray LaHood, of Illinois, as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT):

“I congratulate Representative LaHood on his confirmation as Secretary of the Department of Transportation.

“Yesterday, Representative LaHood appeared before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and spoke of the vision President Obama has for our nation’s transportation system.  Representative LaHood not only brings a commitment to this vision, he also brings a 30-year career dedicated to transparency and fairness.  It is no wonder that the Senate unanimously confirmed Representative LaHood as Transportation Secretary.

“I look forward to working with Secretary LaHood and the Obama Administration on innovative transportation policies and solutions that will stimulate the economy and aid communities in my home state of West Virginia and across the nation.”
