Wicker, Thune Introduce 5G Spectrum Act
Today, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and John Thune, R-S.D., chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, introduced the 5G Spectrum Act. This legislation would ensure mid-band spectrum is quickly available in the market by requiring a transparent and competitive public auctioning process. The bill specifically would require that at least 50 percent of the auction revenues be reserved for the American people.

Committee Announces Hearing on Automated Vehicles
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “Highly Automated Vehicles: Federal Perspectives on the Deployment of Safety Technology,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. The hearing will examine the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Board’s perspectives on the safe testing and deployment of highly automated vehicles, otherwise referred to as autonomous vehicles (AVs), self-driving vehicles, or driverless vehicles. Witnesses will discuss recommendations for realizing the potential safety, mobility, and efficiency benefits of AVs.

Committee Announces Second Hearing on Aviation Safety
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “Aviation Safety and the Future of Boeing’s 737 MAX,” at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. This hearing is intended to examine issues associated with the design, development, certification, and operation of the Boeing 737 MAX following two international accidents in the last year. The committee will first hear from Boeing on actions taken to improve safety and the company’s interaction with relevant federal regulators. The second panel will follow and be comprised of government officials and aviation experts to discuss the status of Boeing 737 MAX and relevant safety recommendations.

Wicker Releases Investigation Report on CPSC Data Breaches
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, has delivered an investigation report to Acting Chairman Robert Adler of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The committee’s investigation centered on the CPSC’s violation of section 6(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) and subsequent data breaches. As part of its oversight responsibility, the committee has been investigating the violations since April and released the final report this week.

Committee Announces Hearing on STELAR
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “The Reauthorization of STELAR,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. This hearing will examine policy considerations for reauthorizing the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELAR) before the law expires at the end of the year and how to ensure Americans living beyond the reach of a broadcast signal maintain access to local programming. In addition, witnesses will discuss the effectiveness of STELAR’s good faith requirement and other targeted video marketplace reforms Congress should consider in the next STELAR reauthorization.
