Rockefeller Hails Mozilla Move to Protect Consumers' Personal Information

**Please note an update to the Chairman's statement. This is in light of Mozilla issuing a correction to media reports on their new cookie policy.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV released the following statement after Mozilla announced a new initiative to more effectively block cookies, which is a proactive step toward protecting consumers’ personal information from being tracked online.
“This is welcome news from Mozilla. It proves there’s a market for giving consumers strong privacy protections, and demonstrates that developers are eager to do this.
“With major Web browsers now starting to provide privacy protections by default, it’s even more important to give businesses the regulatory certainty they need and consumers the privacy protections they deserve. I hope this will end the emerging back and forth so we can act quickly to pass new legislation.”
