Chairman Rockefeller Releases New Investigative Report Revealing Widespread Deceptive Health Insurance Practices

June 24, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C.Today, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D-WV) announces the release of an investigative report, Underpayments to Consumers by the Health Insurance Industry”.

Statement from Chairman Rockefeller:

“The Committee’s report reveals that millions of Americans have been forced to pay unjustified extra charges for health insurance coverage when they go out of network.  This is outrageous at any time, but especially as families all throughout our country are doing everything they can to make ends meet in this economy – this is despicable.  Deceptive practices by insurance companies are not only misleading and widespread, they are absolutely unacceptable to me and I won’t give up the fight for consumers until we bring this to a stop forever.”
