Senators Urge Funding for Broadband Mapping and Securing Communications Infrastructure
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Deb Fischer, R-Neb., Jerry Moran, R-Kan., Todd Young, R-Ind., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., along with 13 other senators today sent a letter to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sens. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., and Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, urging full funding for the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act and the Broadband DATA Act, as Congress completes the appropriations process for FY2021.

Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Logistics of Transporting a COVID-19 Vaccine
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Safety, will convene a hearing titled, “The Logistics of Transporting a COVID-19 Vaccine,” at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020. The hearing will examine transportation and logistics plans for ensuring COVID-19 vaccines are delivered across the country. Witnesses will have the opportunity to discuss supply chain issues within the transportation network and ongoing coordination in preparation to distribute the vaccine, as well as the near and long-term outlooks for vaccine distribution.

Committee to Hold Hearing on EU-US Privacy Shield and the Future of Transatlantic Data Flows
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “The Invalidation of the EU-US Privacy Shield and the Future of Transatlantic Data Flows,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9. The hearing will explore policy issues that led to the European Court of Justice’s (ECJ) invalidation of the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework, one of the key mechanisms for allowing the transfer of personal data from the European Union to the United States.

Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on U.S. Coast Guard Capabilities
U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, chairman of the Subcommittee on Security, will convene a hearing titled, “U.S. Coast Guard Capabilities for Safeguarding National Interests and Promoting Economic Security in the Arctic,” at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. The hearing will examine how the United States Coast Guard (USCG) 2019 Arctic Strategic Outlook is being resourced through acquisition plans, training exercises, and infrastructure investments, and the importance of USCG presence in the Arctic as commercial sea traffic increases. The hearing will also address the security implications of Chinese and Russian interests in the Arctic and the current state of the USCG’s icebreaking capacity.

Wicker Announces First Two Members of the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today announced that former Olympic athletes John Dane and Brittney Reese will be the first two members of the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics (the Commission).
