Committee Broadband Priorities Included in Omnibus Heads to President’s Desk

Wicker Releases Committee’s FAA Investigation Report
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today released the Committee’s investigation report on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This investigation began in April of 2019, weeks after the second of two tragic crashes of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, when Committee staff began receiving information from whistleblowers disclosing numerous concerns related to aviation safety.

Wicker, Cantwell, Schatz Introduce National Ocean Exploration Act
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., chairman and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, yesterday introduced the National Ocean Exploration Act. The bill would authorize the National Ocean Mapping, Exploration, and Characterization Council, update national priorities for ocean mapping, exploration, and characterization, and direct the Council to coordinate and facilitate activities across federal and non-federal entities to advance those priorities.

Annual Defense Bill Including Commerce Committee Priorities Clears Senate
U.S. Sen. Wicker Introduces Bill Establishing a National Framework for Student Athlete Name, Image, Likeness
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today introduced the Collegiate Athlete and Compensation Rights Act to permit student athletes to earn compensation for the use of their name, image, or likeness (NIL). The bill would create a uniform, national framework for NIL compensation.

Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Live Event Entertainment Industry
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., chairman of the Subcommittee on Manufacturing, Trade, and Consumer Protection, will convene a hearing titled, “Examining the Impact of COVID-19 on the Live Event Entertainment Industry,” at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. The hearing will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the live event entertainment industry and the challenges faced by artists and venues, as well as supporting industries such as lighting and transportation. The hearing will also examine proposals for legislative relief, unemployment compensation, and healthcare subsidies.
