Wicker Introduces Legislation to Support U.S. Coast Guard
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today introduced the Unwavering Support for our Coast Guard (USCG) Act. The legislation would ensure Coast Guard personnel are paid in the event of a government shutdown and increase funding to eliminate the shore side backlog by 2025. The USCG Act would also direct a new fleet mix analysis, require an updated shore infrastructure plan, enhance Coast Guard diversity and inclusion, and provide funding to modernize the Coast Guard Yard.

Wicker, Hickenlooper Introduce Bill to Promote Communications Supply Chain Diversity
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., chair of the Subcommittee on Space and Science, introduced the Telecommunications Supply Chain Diversity Promotion Act. The legislation would require the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to establish a testbed to develop and demonstrate innovative supply chain technologies and applications, and establish a grant program to promote the participation of U.S. companies in international standards-setting bodies.

Wicker Requests Information Regarding New Rule Restricting Huawei and Affiliates from U.S. Technology
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, sent a letter to the CEOs of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., Seagate Technology, and Western Digital Corporation requesting information regarding compliance with the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Final Rule designed to restrict Huawei and its affiliates from accessing foreign-produced hard disk drives developed from U.S. software or technology.

Committee Leaders Introduce Legislation to Improve Spectrum Coordination Among Agencies
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, John Thune, R-S.D., ranking member of the Subcommittee on Communications, Media, and Broadband, and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., ranking member of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security, today introduced the Improving Spectrum Coordination Act. The legislation would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to update the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that governs biannual meetings between the agencies to conduct joint spectrum planning.

Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Roy Blunt, R-Mo., Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., and Rick Scott, R-Fla., sent a letter to U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo urging the interagency Tourism Policy Council to update the National Travel and Tourism Strategy (NTTS) to reflect the impact of COVID-19. The NTTS was last updated in 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
