Less Hype, More Help: AI That Improves Safety, Productivity, and Care

Senator Budd Announces Subcommittee Hearing on March 3rd

WASHINGTON, D.C. –?U.S. Senator Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Science, Manufacturing, and Competitiveness, will convene a hearing titled “Less Hype, More Help: AI That Improves Safety, Productivity, and Care.” The hearing will examine how artificial intelligence — a technology as transformative as the internet — can improve Americans’ quality of life, create jobs, and drive economic growth.

Witnesses will highlight real-world AI success stories and discuss how deployment is delivering tangible benefits in safety, productivity, and health care for the American people.

Upon announcing the hearing, Sen. Budd said: “Innovative technologies utilizing AI have great potential to maximize skills, improve safety, and enhance many experiences Americans encounter on a daily basis. When developed and deployed responsibly, these technologies can unlock solutions and improve career outcomes in sectors across our economy. This important discussion will allow members of this subcommittee to evaluate some of the most inventive uses of AI to solve everyday problems and help Americans be more productive, whether at work or at home.”

Sen. Cruz said: “AI is transformative. It can raise Americans’ standard of living, eliminate mindless paperwork, catch life-threatening diseases earlier, and help Americans with disabilities live more independently. It can also strengthen existing businesses, spark new ones, create jobs, and drive economic opportunity. But the growth of AI is not entirely without risks for many Americans, whether its workers navigating changes in the job market or children and teens interacting with the technology online. Finding a clear balance between technological development and protecting against harmful impacts is important. At this hearing, we will hear directly from witnesses who are on the front lines deploying AI in the real world and working to ensure that the United States stays ahead of China in the AI race.”

Witnesses:

  • Mr. Demetri Giannikopoulos, Chief Innovation Officer, Rad AI
  • Ms. Brittany Ng, Vice President, Siemens Digital Industries Software
  • Dr. Damion Shelton, Co-Founder and Chairman, Agility Robotics
