Rockefeller Writes Google, Microsoft, Yahoo on Moving Companies Abuses

Feature Image: Cosumer ProtectionWASHINGTON, D.C.— Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV sent letters to the senior executives overseeing search quality at Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo! referring the results of the Committee staff investigation into consumer abuses by Internet-based moving brokers.  The report documents how these brokers misleadingly market their services to online consumers, sometimes using questionable search engine optimization tactics to “game the system”.  The online brokers take advantage of consumers by providing low quotes to arrange the move, only to have the moving carrier dramatically increase the charges—sometimes by several thousand dollars—after they have taken physical possession of the goods.
