September 30, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee commends the agreement reached by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) that completes the transition of the technical management of the Domain Name System (DNS) to a multi-stakeholder, private-sector-led model.

"This partnership is a great step toward improved public-private coordination to ensure the Internet is secure and functional for all users. For the millions of Americans who use the Internet daily, I am pleased we have implemented a sound framework to improve the decision-making processes that support this valuable resource."
