WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator John D (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Mr. Charles F. Bolden, Jr., to be Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Ms. Lori Garver, to be Deputy Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

“I am enormously pleased to see the President’s nominees, Mr. Charles F. Bolden, Jr. and Ms. Lori Garver confirmed by the United States Senate. Mr. Bolden brings with him a distinguished 34-year career in the military and the accomplishment of four successful Space Shuttle missions and I know he is up to the task of leading the way at NASA. Ms. Garver also brings exceptional experience—20 years working in the space and aeronautics field serving as the lead civil space policy advisor for Obama for America and helping lead the Agency Review Team for NASA during the transition. Together, these two individuals represent a renewed commitment to keeping this nation’s space endeavors innovative, prosperous, and safe.”
