Commerce Committee Announces Hearings for the Week of April 7th, 2003

Committee Hearings Set for Next Week Washington, DC – Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today announced the following hearings scheduled for the week beginning April 7:

· Promoting Corporate Responsibility through the Elimination of Dividend Taxation: Consumer Affairs and Product Safety Subcommittee hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, at 10:00 a.m. in room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building. Senator Peter Fitzgerald (R-IL), Chairman of the Subcommittee, will preside. The purpose of this hearing is to review how the elimination of taxes on cash dividends paid to individual investors may modify corporate behavior in a manner beneficial to individual shareholders. Following is the tentative witness list (not necessarily in order of appearance): Panel I: Peter Fisher, Undersecretary for Domestic Finance, U.S. Department of Treasury Panel II: Charles Elson, Chair of the Center for Corporate Governance, Lerner College of Business & Economics, University of Delaware Elizabeth W. · Transportation and Border Security: Full Committee hearing on Wednesday, April 9, at 9:30 a.m. in room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building. The hearing will focus on the Department of Homeland Security and its ongoing and proposed homeland security efforts for each mode of transportation; border security issues at our nation's land and waterway ports of entry; and the impact of security initiatives on commerce. · FAA Reauthorization: Full Committee hearing on Thursday, April 10, at 9:30 a.m. in room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building. The hearing will focus on the Senate FAA reauthorization bill. Following is the tentative witness list (not necessarily in order of appearance): Panel: Ms. Marion Blakey, Administrator, Federal Aviation Administration Ms. Read Van de Water, Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs, U. S. Department of Transportation Dr. Gerald Dillingham, Director, Physical Infrastructure Issues, General Accounting Office 

· Neurobiological Research and the Impact of Media: Science, Technology, and Space Subcommittee hearing scheduled for Thursday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. in room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building. Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), Chairman of the Subcommittee, will preside. The Subcommittee will hear testimony on the nascent field of neurobiological research, such as brain mapping, and its use in the investigation of the impact of entertainment media on children's health.
