The Subcommittee on Security has legislative and oversight responsibility for the U.S. Coast Guard, including all its safety, security, and environmental protection missions, the Maritime Administration, the Federal Maritime Commission, and navigation and merchant marine issues generallyincluding the safe and secure operations of vessels entering the United States or transiting through our Exclusive Economic Zone; and the enforcement of maritime laws to support maritime commerce and protect marine living resources. The subcommittee also has legislative and oversight jurisdiction over the Transportation Security Administration, which includes aviation and surface transportation security issues. The subcommittee also focuses on other security issues under the Commerce Committee’s jurisdiction, including cybersecurity, drone security, and digital network security.
